Jonas joined the show as a coach in season 18. He took season 19 off, but returned for the current round of competition, its 20th season. After the announcement about Grande was made, Jonas responded to her tweet to congratulate her on joining the long-running show. "You’re going to kill it next season!" he wrote. "Welcome to the family."

Country star Shelton is the singing competition's longest running coach, and has been with the show since it debuted in April 2011. Clarkson has been with the show since season 14, while Legend arrived in season 16. Carson Daly, who has also been with the show since the beginning, will return to host.
